BIO

Ilyáwen Ishii is an artist based in Baltimore, Maryland, whose practice centers on photography. She combines alternative and digital processes to produce monochrome images presented as face-mounted acrylic prints. Her work is best known for figurative imagery and a controlled visual language in which form appears unsettled, partial, or in transition.

Ishii’s work engages interior states of being shaped by memory inheritance and lived proximity to people and place. Figures emerge through repetition, blur, and shifting light, suggesting time as layered rather than fixed. Attentive to unseen forces that inform identity and presence, her images move between intimacy and distance, holding space for transformation without resolution.
